Pedro Porro finally put pen to paper yesterday for Spurs, and has signed a contract that is valid until 2028, but what can he bring to N17?

After hearing the news that the Sporting defender finally completed his deal to Tottenham after an extraordinary, never ending saga, the question is what can he offer to Spurs?
The deal is said to be a loan until the end of the season where Spurs have an obligation to buy for £39m. The right wing back will also wear the number 23 shirt.
For those who are unaware of Porro, he is a 23 year old Spanish international currently playing in the Liga NOS (Portugal's top flight league) and sits 4th in the table with Sporting Lisbon. In his time at Sporting he has helped them to win a league cup and a cup double just in his first season at the club.
He is renowned for his attacking qualities and this season he has recorded 2 goals and 6 assists in the league from 14 appearances whilst also creating the 6th most chances in the league with 34. 6th in the league doesn’t sound that amazing but from right wing back that is spectacular numbers he is putting up.
He also has the 2nd most crosses attempted in the league with 107. If you compare these stats to our current wing back Emerson Royal you can see the large difference. Per 90 Pedro Porro is averaging 2.8 chances created to Emerson’s 0.4. He is also averaging 2.1 crosses per game compared to Emerson’s 0.3.
This is a stark contrast and the numbers speak for themselves. Whilst this may highlight how poor Emerson has been with all due respect, I think it more demonstrates Porro’s excellence and how much of a major upgrade he will be to that right hand side.
As well all know too well Conte’s system heavily relies on capable full-backs and we have failed to
see that many times this season. Whilst Perisic has not always been at his best he has certainly been more effective than any player on the opposite side.

With Djed Spence unable to impress or even get in the team therefore heading out on loan to Rennes and the shock termination of Matt Doherty’s contract following a transfer to Atletico Madrid this leaves just Royal and new signing Porro at the club. I’m sure that all Spurs fans and Conte himself will hope that this problem position has been resolved following the the incoming and outgoings of the right wing back position.
Not only will the young, exciting Spaniard bolster that right hand side significantly but he will also
bring a much needed balance to the team and help with the lack of creativity that Tottenham are
suffering with this season.
Conte has two capable full backs this will be crucial to the way that
spurs play. We have often seen this season that the left hand side has been our main threat for goals from fullback and the right hand side has been neglected due to Emerson or Doherty’s
ineffectiveness when going forward. However now with the arrival of Porro opposition teams will
have to be wary of both sides and this will allow them both more space to drive forward or put a
pinpoint cross in.
We were able to see this in the Champions League this season where both Perisic and Porro went up against each other in a fierce duel in the Spurs vs Sporting game in the group stage where Porro really emerged as a star in the Conte’s and the Spurs’ fans eyes and emphatically embraced the challenge proving his ability to excel both in and out of possession at the highest level.

I feel like this could also be massive for Kane. Now with both fullbacks being able to provide accurate balls into the box this means that Kane will not have to drop deep so much having to try and create it all himself and he can go back to the lethal striker he was a few years ago being a target man in the box. We could see Kane potentially start racking up bags of goals due to his fullbacks services and chase down the leading goal scorer Haaland.
So overall a very crucial and exciting signing for Spurs who will improve us in more ways than one
and which could see us hopefully get back on track for our aims this season, really pushing on now
like we did last year following the January signings and their significant impact.
