Who goes and who stays in the Tottenham clearout? pt. 2

George Wellbelove

It is clear that Spurs need a major squad overhaul in order to properly challenge for a trophy next season. The current squad is a mix of previous manager’s signings and numerous players out on loan. Here we look at which players need to go and whether some players will get the chance to play at the North London based team next season - now is the time to look at whp stays and goes in the midfield and attacking positions.

Central Midfield

Pierre Emile Hojbjerg - Keep

A Mousa Dembele-esque player that has given amazing performances on the big stages over the last three seasons he has been at the club. A relatively unknown player after arriving from Southampton, Hojbjerg has slotted in well at Spurs. Although, recent dips in form may incline the manager to upgrade on his position but Hojbjerg should be kept at Tottenham.

Rodrigo Bentancur - Keep

Besides Harry Kane, Bentancur has been the best player this season for Spurs. Before his season ending ACL injury, the Uruguayan was playing excellently in the midfield and even scoring game winning goals against Leeds and Bournemouth. He is a must keep for the future and can only excel for the seasons to come.

Yves Bissouma - Keep

Arriving from Brighton at the end of the 21/22 season, Bissouma was hyped up for big things. This has gone to plan as he never truly got the chance to cement down a starting line-up spot and has had a big chunk of the season wiped out through injury. Expect Bissouma to improve next season.

Oliver Skipp - Keep

The Englishman is a curious case at Spurs. Sometimes brilliant but sometimes goes missing during games. With the right development, Skipp could be a star for Spurs and become a legend but he does need some help in going in the right direction.

Pape Matar Sarr - Loan

Sarr has been quietly solid this season in the appearances he has made. He probably hasn’t had the desired game time in his first full season at Spurs and could do with some more development. A loan move may be on the cards.

Harry Winks - Sell

Winks’ time out on loan at Sampdoria has been short due to a lengthy injury but his presence in the midfield ranks reflects the convoluted nature of the players in this rank. Winks has been a shadow of the player who once regularly got selected for England squads and unfortunately for the former academy player, Winks needs to be sold to secure more regular football to reignite his career.

Tanguy Ndombele - Sell

Ndombele’s time in a Spurs shirt came crashing down from his damning conduct back in 2022 against Morecambe in the FA Cup. A somewhat fruitless spell on loan at Napoli has provided yet another ex-Spurs player with a trophy but it is time for Ndombele to permanently leave the club.

Giovani Lo Celso - Sell

Personally, Lo Celso has been one of my favourite players for Spurs, but he never truly fitted in with the style of play. Two loan spells to Villareal have improved him greatly and with concrete interest from Aston Villa, Lo Celso could be on the move.

Harvey White - Loan

Another young player who really needs game time to improve his skills and gain experience. White should be sent out on loan to another Championship team.

Wingers

Son Heung-Min - Keep

He has been a shadow of himself this season, compared to his golden boot winning campaign last year, but he has flourished under the management of Ryan Mason. It would be silly to let such a serial goal scorer and technically gifted footballer leave the club.

Richarlison - Keep

A 60 million pound signing from Everton and only 3 goals to show for it. Richarlison’s season has been abysmal and hasn’t excelled like fans thought he would. However, it would be a huge waste for Richarlison to depart after one season and needs to be given a chance to prove himself.

Arnaut Danjuma - Sign Permanently

With all of Richarlison’s struggles, Danjuma has been excellent despite limited game time. From his goal scoring debut to his spectacular strike in the defeat to Bournemouth, Danjuma has made a great impression on all Tottenham fans. It would be good to see him back at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season.

Dejan Kulusevski - Keep

A somewhat disappointing season for the Swedish winger this season. He hasn’t hit the heights of his debut season in North London but is still an extremely talented player. His dribbling and movements is second to none and just needs a couple of goals to really get his confidence flowing.

Bryan Gil - Sell

Gil is a talented youngster but ultimately would excel in a different league. An interesting signing from Sevilla back in 2021 did leave some fans questioning this unknown Spanish winger. He has had some notable performances in his handful appearances at Spurs but two loan spells back to La Liga surely show it is time to sell him.

Lucas Moura - No Contract Extension

The Brazilian winger will go down in Tottenham history books as the man to bring the first Champions League final to the Enfield based club. His incredible hat trick in an impossible comeback was simply legendary. However, Moura’s contract is not being extended at the end of the season so his departure is inevitable.

Strikers

Harry Kane - Keep

The best player by a mile this season. It is paramount Kane is kept and convinced by the vision for next season. A no brainer but would be a huge risk if he does not sign a new contract soon as he would potentially leave on a free at the conclusion of next season. Could go either to be honest.

Dane Scarlett - Loan

A decent spell for Scarlett in League One with Portsmouth. The loan spell hasn’t provided as many goals as he probably would have liked but has been valuable experience for the young star. Another loan out next year to develop him further would be ideal.
